Quit Smoking and beat the ban
Smoking will be banned by law on July 1. That means you can’t smoke at all in public and workplaces that are enclosed.
Whether you’re a smoker who lives in Surrey and travels to work in London the ban affects you. Public transport will be included as well as most company cars.
If your employer provides a smoking shelter it will have to be substantially open and well away from your office building to protect others from secondhand smoke.
The ban may encourage thousands to take the plunge and quit smoking. Services such as the NHS Stop Smoking Service are already reporting an increase in calls and enquiries.
They can help with a combination of drugs and brief behavioural support that you have to attend for several weeks.
Many succeed this way, but if you prefer a drug free approach then hypnotherapy and neuro linguistic programming (NLP) may be for you. Research has shown that on average smokers are more than five times more likely to break their habit with hypnosis than by willpower alone.
The secret to success is commitment and when working with my clients in either West Byfleet or Hampton Hill, for stop smoking I will spend some time ensuring they have this 100%.
If you have been thinking about quitting smoking then now would be a good time seek help and start researching the best support for you.
There are around 40 days to go and the government intends to ramp up its advertising campaign so no-one will miss the incoming no smoking ban.
A good place to start is to observe your habit so that your mind starts to appreciate what you’re doing to yourself. A good way to do that is to start a diary and simply note the times you smoke, where and how you felt.
Over a week you should see patterns that you may be able to change relatively simply, or see that you’re on autopilot most of the time and don’t really enjoy smoking.
One other thing you can try is drinking a glass of cold water with every cigarette. This really brings home the taste of the many toxins in your cigarette.

Remember it’s always your choice to smoke or to break free.
