Overcoming Anxiety the Natural Way

It’s possible to live your best self at any moment. You’ve had times in your life when you’ve displayed admirable qualities like confidence, leadership, optimism, and coolness under pressure.
Your challenge is that it’s hard to be your best self under pressure. You forget what you’re capable of, and so you’re anxious. But what if you knew that no matter what happened, you could summon up the best attributes of yourself to meet those challenges?
You can retrieve your most admirable qualities, and live in control of your anxiety when you anchor those qualities. Anchoring is an NLP technique and when you know how to use it you can bring a quality into your current experience.

Anchor your best self and conquer anxiety forever

Once you become experienced at anchoring, you can even anchor attributes you’ve never experienced.

Let’s see how this works. Imagine that you want to anchor the attribute of confidence.

  • Think of an event in which you felt confident and in control. This event may have happened recently (you won a contest) or many years ago, when you gained an A on a test in school.
  • Bring back this event, and the feelings you experienced, as completely as you can. Close your eyes and imagine the event: use your senses. What were you seeing, touching, hearing? As you experience this past event deeply, anchor it.
  • Anchor by choosing a word which represents this event. If you chose to anchor the time you were told you’d won an scholarship for example, you might choose the word “scholarship”. Silently say the word to yourself several times, as you remember and FEEL the emotions of the event.
  • It helps to write down the attribute you’ve anchored, and the anchor word. In the example above, you’ve anchored confidence with “scholarship”.
  • Test your anchor word after you’ve created it, so you’ll remember to use it
You can test your anchor word right away. Go for a brief walk – even going into another room is fine – and say the anchor word to yourself. You should feel confident.

Over the next few days, experiment with your anchor word, and use it several times. The more often you use it, the more it will become natural, and you’ll remember to use the anchor word at times you need it.
You can create as many anchor words as you please, to call up your best self, and live from your strengths.
