Performance:Learn the Secrets of High Achievers
You’re not who you think you are: you’re much more than you consciously think. Neuro-scientists’ research shows that the greater part of you is a mystery to your conscious mind. Your subconscious mind is in control of the processes of your body, and your body has its own form of consciousness too, in each and every cell.
Because there’s so much more of “you” than you’re consciously aware of, high achievers place a great reliance on their instincts and intuition, and you can learn to do this too.
The magical pause that helps you to high performance
Tapping into your greater self is easy. All you have to do is pause. You’ve seen sports stars stop before they dive into the pool, serve in tennis and tee off. They’re relaxing, letting go of what’s in their minds, so that they can be on top of their game.
You can do this too: when you calm your mind, you immediately increase your effectiveness. However, pausing goes beyond calming your mind. Once you become an expert at pausing, you’ll be able to get into a state of flow immediately. There have been many studies done on the creative “flow” process, and although experts aren’t sure what it is, they all agree that flow takes you beyond conscious thought.
Learn how to pause, and get into flow
The first step in pausing is to relax. Take a couple of slow, deep breaths. Inhale deeply, and exhale. Now focus on your breathing for a moment or two. Mentally or aloud, say “Ah”. When you say Ah, you’ll discover that you sigh. This is a release of tension.
Next, relax. Let yourself go physically limp – allow all tension to flow out of your body. Scan your body for areas of tension, and tell yourself to relax that area. We seem to collect tension in our shoulders, so relax your shoulders.
Now be aware of your senses. What can you smell, hear, touch, taste and feel?
Finally, allow everything to be exactly as it is.
This is the process when you pause: you breathe, relax, sense and allow.
With practice, you can pause within a minute or two.
Use this pause process in between tasks as you go through your day. It will increase your effectiveness and boost your performance in everything you do.
