Reduce Stress and Motivate yourself
I met up with some like minded ladies for a coffee today. We talked about our business and marketing and what we wanted and whether we could help each other in any way.
More than once the conversation was about what we hadn’t done and should’ve got done and how we’d do more if only there was time or we had the motivation.
These things that we ’should’ve’ been doing where the marketing type of projects or tasks that had dutifully been written in diaries and time put aside for and yet that’s all that they remained. An undone task in the schedule.
It got me thinking about how many of us do the same thing, which of itself isn’t so bad. What makes us stress about it and consequently zap our motivation is that inner critic going on about it inside our heads saying how bad we are for not getting it sorted. This goes on and on for some of us reducing our ability to think clearly and take action.
At these times it’s a good idea to put pen to paper and remind yourself why are doing what you’re doing. That is - what’s the big picture and why did you set out in the direction you did.
Then look back over the last few months or year and consider what you’ve achieved so far and congratulate yourself and even better reward yourself. It’s amazing how motivating a well deserved can be.
Now write out the benefits, short and long term, you’ll see from getting the task or project completed.
Take some time to consider whether you need some outside help or more information to get the job started or completed.
Discuss it with someone a friend or colleague. This will get it out of your head and force you to start describing it in practical terms.
Doing all or some of the above will get you up and running again and motivated.
Develop the habit and you’ll find it much easier to bounce back from moments of self-doubt or overwhelm.
The more you realise and acknowledge your abilities and strengths the more they’ll be there shining through and supporting you.
