Talk to Yourself to reduce Stress and Relax

Talk to yourself you say - are you mad? Well now that you’ve thought about you are in fact talking to yourself!

Of course we all do it, in the car, on the train, while we’re shopping or at work. These thoughts might be along the lines of what to have for supper, or how nice the evening before was. However a lot of the time when I ask my clients they admit that their thoughts are on the negative side. In fact they are very critical and wouldn’t be the kind of things they’d dream of saying to another person.

The client might then sheepishly look at me and laugh at themselves for being so harsh and then wondering why they feel bad about themselves.

How you think governs how you act, so it’s an important skill to learn to craft your thoughts to support what you want in life.

You can begin today by simply becoming aware of your thoughts and the quality of them. If they are negative just notice and maybe if your serious note down somewhere what that thought was. This helps you to become conscious of these ‘unconscious’ thoughts and how they might be sabotaging your best efforts!
