Whose Life Is It Anyway?
You know how sometimes you’re hit by a revelation, that once discovered seems it’s been staring you in the face forever? Well I’ve had one recently. You see I had this companion Gremlin who told me life isn’t so great for many years. He would tell me when to worry or concentrate on feeling bad or less than rosy. AND I BELIEVED HIM!! I admit it, I did. I also admit he was rather handy to tune into as he helped me put on hold doing anything that would make things better.
I spent close to seven or more years taking NLP and Hypnosis courses and certifications, Business Development Programs, Communications Training, and had several wonderful coaches (and still have one of course) who encouraged me in every way possible to dump that Gremlin. And many friends who have said: “What do you mean, you’re fantastic. You can do anything you want. Look at all the people you’ve helped and the business you’ve created!?? But did I believe them? You guessed right.
Meanwhile, my erstwhile companion continued his annoying murmuring in my ear, “They were just being nice, after all. No, you’re not amazing like so and so. You can’t be fabulous, you don’t think up solutions at the drop of a hat. You should let more people know about your passion and your work but really you don’t want to. Because what would you say, anyway…huh?” “And who would want to know even if you say something? Oh sure, you’ve made a lot of people happier and more confident but that’s not like worldwide success is it!”
But that WAS then, and this is NOW! And this morning, a magical thing happened. A “confluence” of events. (I love that word - “confluence.” A place where two rivers meet; a coming together,” says my pocket Oxford dictionary).
I was invited by P&O Cruises to lecture for two weeks. Everyday I spoke about the work I do and how NLP and hypnosis heals and changes hearts and minds. Many passengers told me afterwards how much it meant to them.
I’ve been invited to Chair a very established and respected local networking group of business women because they wanted a warm and approachable leader. Just shows how your body and mind can communicate your message when you let it!
A friend urged me to keep a note book handy and write my thoughts on what I do. Since then I haven’t stopped and my musings are helping me find the words to explain how I guide clients to make lasting change.
These musings are helping me put off procrastinating! Nowadays I feel enthusiastic about finding more ways to describe my calling and beliefs that I resent having to browse the internet!
Spring arrived and I took to my garden. The one place where I have discovered that ideas miraculously pop into my head. Last week mowing the lawn and armed with a notepad in my back pocket I found ideas popping into my head one after another . . .
So I decided to write this blog just for fun, and not be attached to the outcome. As the robins and blackbirds sang, I realized that Gremlin had been creeping up, so decided to let him be blown away into the fresh spring air. As he disappeared another idea came, and another, and another.
And I am having such a good time now, that I just want to keep writing and writing and writing and writing…… excuse me, I have another article to begin…..
But before I go let me leave with with this question. Are you going to let your Gremlin lead your life or are you ready to give him the sack?
